During the late 17th Century in Scotland, about 250,000 scots came to the new world (america). At this time a lot was happening in Scotland. Starting with the Covenanters, a group rebelling against the King's attempt to control the church. There was a lot of violence surrounding this whole thing, life was very hard. There were many battles and the king came down hard on everyone, whether it was with taxes or putting people behind bars for standing up for their beliefs. After a while there was a mini civil war in scotland. America, the new world, sounded like a much better option, people banned from the country were the first to set off. The Scots have been a big part of our country, hard workers and tough fighters. They tended to settle on the east coast from PA down to Georgia. They were everything but primarily farmers.
